Welcome to the Capilano Flute Choir!

The Capilano Flute Choir brings together amateur adult flute players, committed to becoming better musicians and sharing our music with the public. The flute choir, formerly based in North Vancouver, British Columbia, moved to Vancouver, BC at the start of the 2021-22 season (when COVID-19 restrictions permitted us to relaunch in-person rehearsals).

A flute choir is a unique chamber ensemble playing music written or transcribed for flute. The 20+ members of the choir include players on piccolo, C flute, alto flute, and bass flute. Members get the opportunity to play different parts on different flutes. A bass instrument such as bassoon or double bass rounds out the sound. The music we play ranges from the classics to folk, Latin, pop, jazz, and show tunes.

Although we were unable to perform in person last year, we did complete our first virtual performance: Spem in Alium, a 40-part motet by Renaissance composer Thomas Tallis (1505 - 1585), arranged for 40 flutes + contrabass by British flutist, arranger, and recording artist Andy Findon. Flutists from across the country joined us in this project. Here is a link to the video on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCRVl6FZ9eE. We hope you enjoy it!
